Grandma

Friday, January 7th, 2005

My grandma called last night. My grandparents live in Mexico during the winter, and have never called me from there before. I thought perhaps there was a problem…

Mo Water

Friday, January 7th, 2005

I did get home last night - a revised map shows that they did NOT close the Highway 31 bridge as initially reported. It remains open, and is the only artery into and out of Columbus at this time. My commute is now detailed here - green is the normal way, orange is the revised route.

While this has turned my normal 10 minute commute into a 30 minute one, I’m not too concerned. There are plenty of people for which this has become a big mess, and I’m not one of them.

I will post pictures over the weekend - I have some good ones of yesterday, but since the river will crest tonight, I think tomorrow will provide a lot of really good photo ops.

The flooding of highway 46 (the big red horizontal blob right in the middle of the map) is the most impressive, in my opinion. The water has completely engulfed that corridor - the Holiday Inn must have 2 or 3 feet of standing water in it by now.

Lots of Rain

Means lots of flooding. My current plan to get home is noted on
this map.

KEY: green star = work, red star = home. Big red dots = closed road.

Note, I’m almost out of options. Most of the roads south of here are already flooded. If Tipton Lakes gets impassible, I may not be able to get home for a few days.

UPDATE: Proposed path is no longer possible, with noted bridge closing. Currently, I am unsure how to get home now as all bridges west out of the county are now closed.

Not Important

Somehow I’ve managed to get myself on a mailing list for a nightclub located in England. Now, I get their mailer twice a week as to who will be “DJing” that particular weekend. I sent a very nasty email to the person listed, but it hasn’t resulted in me being removed from their list. Tark.

Also, as a token of my goodwill, the tarkblog will be donating 50% of all tarkblog related profits received this month to the tsunami relief fund.
