Business and Application Logic, Part 2

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

In a previous post on the subject, I touched on some thoughts I had based my application needs to keep data in a database over a period of time, without using updates and deletes.

After doing some pencil and paper design, and a lot of thought, I think I figured out the easiest way to implement this.

Your right

Saturday, November 26th, 2005

It gripes my ass when people misuse ‘your’ taking things like how “your a nice guy”.

But it’s excusable. I mean, it’s someone just not thinking clearly and taking the extra effort to notice that they should have used the words “you are”.

However, I find it completely inexcusable when someone does it backwards. That is: “you’re shoulder shouldn’t hurt any more”.

How can you make that mistake in reverse? I don’t get it.

Granted, I’m sure I’ve done it sometimes in life. That doesn’t make it any more excusable, though.

Do The Math

My Norton Antivirus 2002 subscription ran out back in March, and I was loathe to renew it, at 34.95 or something close to that for another year.

Thank god for pre-Black Friday sales. Officemax had NAV 2006 for 39.99 + 9.99 instant rebate + 20.00 mail in rebate = 10.00.

Circuit city, however, price matches + 10%, and had the same rebate, so we ended up paying $9.00 for NAV 2006, which comes with 1 year of subscription to the live update service. That’s a much better deal, in my opinion. To boot, I (and when I say *i*, I mean Annie who had the day off and did the shopping for me) had a gift card for CC, so we ended up really paying nothing.

Bonus.

A quick scan of my computer showed 11 vulnerabilities that weren’t picked up by the existing virus scan or Adaware. Ugh.

Christmas Music

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

I just noticed that XM online now has a new channel, via AOL Music, called “One Hit Wonders”. I’m sure Vansell would be spooeying himself if he listened to this baby.

In related news, I heard a quick blurb on there about how XM now has like 5 Christmas music channels. They’re not available online yet, so I couldn’t see them from the computer, but that’s a lot of Christmas music.

I know someone famous

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

In response to Noah’s blog about knowing someone who knows someone famous, I thought I’d say that I know someone famous.

I went to high school with a guy named Danny (I can’t think of his last name now). Anyway, it was a well known fact that he was in the movie Kindergarten Cop (with Arnie). He played a random kid who ran out of the building during the fire alarm scene. Or so he said.

That is all.
