Inefficienies

Monday, February 27th, 2006

The cable internet at home was a bit flaky over the weekend. This isn’t the first time, but it did it most of the afternoon Saturday and all day Sunday so I figured I should call Comcast and let them know.

The Price Is Right

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Last night while we were unwinding before bedtime, I pulled up the Tivo’s picks for hte day and lo and behold, it had recorded TPIR. I was stoked, because since college I haven’t really watched any TPIR.

With the Tivo, I can watch the condensed version. I blast through everything except the actual games.

Anyway, on the first game the lady gets up on stage and they do some stuff. I say to Annie: “They’re going to play Any Number”. A few minutes later, they were playing any number.

She thought I was a freak. “How did you know they were going to play that game?”

Well, the key is that you have to have watched TPIR for a long time. The second ingredient is you have to know where they stand for which games, which camera angle they use, and what prizes are related to them.

I figure I can guess what game is going to happen 50% of the time when they show prizes that DON’T directly gave away the game type. Sometimes when they reveal prizes, they have price tags next to them whose style reveals the type of game, which is also a dead give away. The rest of the time when she gets on stage, they instantly announce the game, like Plinko or the Punchboard. You can’t guess that one ahead of time, until the camera pans just right.

Anyway, she thought my ability to predict the game was freakish. I thought it was effable.

I’m in Chicago for some Rails training. However, more interesting is that when you stay at a hotel you tend to watch things on the television you wouldn’t normally watch.
