Complicated Technology

Monday, April 17th, 2006

If you watch much television, surely at somepoint you’ve contemplated between a mini-dish or cable. For some people, cable isn’t an option due to their location. For others, a dish is a hassle. Either way, those are generally the two choices when it comes to television options.

Election Time

Monday, April 17th, 2006

Caleb and I saw quite a few interesting election signs on the way to Terre Haute yesterday for the Easter festivities.

Gambill for Sheriff,
Mick Love for Assessor, and
Chester “Pudge” Richardson for Sheriff.

On my way to work this morning…
“Woody” Burton for Congress.

Tax Dollars at Work

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

In yesterday’s paper was a large article about how the ColumBUS, which is the Columbus bus service, will be reducing its rates for seniors.

Columbus is small town Indiana. It’s not a very metropolitan area. There are like 4 busses or something like that. Needless to say, I think the bus service is a waste of tax money - but apparently it does serve some people who are not able to transport themselves around. So be it.

But now they’re going to reduce rates for seniors. The current rate: 25 cents. The new rate: 10 cents.

Wha?

They’re doing this because of a rule that states that public bus service has to provide a 50% reduced fare to certain patrons.

But, they’re anticipating that this decline in this rate may cause a budget shortfall, which in turn would…raise rates.

So they’re going to lower the rate to end up raising the rate. Makes no sense to me.

But come on. I seriously doubt 25 cents is going to break the bank. If it is, you don’t need to be going out and about.

Dead Dog

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

Dear person whose dog must have broken free and ran into the side of my car on the way home,

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to stop. I didn’t see you around anywhere, and it wasn’t exactly easy to stop on a busy highway where your dog dig its deed. I don’t know if it walked away or not, since by the time I looked in my rear view mirror the car behind me had already closed up enough space I couldn’t see it.

I checked with Judge FIL, and he told me that I’m not under an obligation to report the incident unless I want to collect insurance money. Since the only damage your dog did was break my turn signal cover, I’ll just let this one go.

Sincerely,
Celeb

(As a follow up, let me know your thoughts on me not stopping to see what happened. Consider this: the dog ran into the side of my car, I swerved as much as I could, but I was on a two lane highway at 5pm in the evening. Nobody was around, and it didn’t happen in front of any particular house. Should I have turned around somewhere up the road and gone back, or should I have just said screw it? )

She throws like a girl

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

The ILs recently came down, and along with the wife went to the University of Cincinnati to SIL1’s track and field meet.

The wife captured this video clip of a girl who had an interesting way of throwing the shot put.
