In yesterday’s paper was a large article about how the ColumBUS, which is the Columbus bus service, will be reducing its rates for seniors.
Columbus is small town Indiana. It’s not a very metropolitan area. There are like 4 busses or something like that. Needless to say, I think the bus service is a waste of tax money - but apparently it does serve some people who are not able to transport themselves around. So be it.
But now they’re going to reduce rates for seniors. The current rate: 25 cents. The new rate: 10 cents.
Wha?
They’re doing this because of a rule that states that public bus service has to provide a 50% reduced fare to certain patrons.
But, they’re anticipating that this decline in this rate may cause a budget shortfall, which in turn would…raise rates.
So they’re going to lower the rate to end up raising the rate. Makes no sense to me.
But come on. I seriously doubt 25 cents is going to break the bank. If it is, you don’t need to be going out and about.
