Bad Driver

Growing up, I had a nasty habit of biting my fingernails. Actually, I’m sure I have other nastier habits than than, but according to society it’s a nasty habit, so I’m going with it.
Anyway, I never really cared much about it. Until I noticed that I was getting older and a majority of people around me weren’t really doing it anymore. So, I took it upon myself one day to stop. This was sometime in high school - probably my junior or senior year.
It was hard at first, because I’d find myself doing it and not even paying attention. But as soon as I realized what I was doing, I would stop. Pretty soon, I wasn’t doing it anymore.
However, the downside was that I had to start being proactive about clipping my nails. This was something I hadn’t really done before, and it was hard to get used to. Really hard, in fact. I never really got the hang of it.
So, I would just attempt to space out the time between nail clippings as long as I could before I couldn’t stand it anymore. This meant I’d get some pretty long nails…not Lee’s Press On kind of long, but still pretty long.
Until one day, when I was using my new found nails do some kind of new found utility (like open something I previously wasn’t able to do before) and whatever I did, I bent my nail backwards. Yowsa. Not only did it startle the hell out of me, but it hurt as well. I had to bend it back into position manually, which seemed to hurt even more. Then it was all damaged, and white. The skin underneath turned purple for a day or to, and it throbbed a little bit.
After that, I gave up and started biting my nails again. And I still do to this day.
About two weeks ago, my upper back started hurting. It wasn’t hurting a lot just enough to be a bit uncomfortable.
