Skool

Looking through the staff directory for my high school (a school of around 2200 students these days), can you guess which department is the largest in the school?

Math?

Science?

Physical Education?

Nope. Special Education. 22 full time staff members (no data on any part time #s).

In comparison, math has 17 staff members.

The Math department serves approximately 1800 students. The Special Education Department, at least when I went there, served less than 50.

What’s going on here? I’m not trying to knock people in special education, I’m just trying to get a grasp on the logic of if this is a true necessity or that the government is just throwing an abnormal amount of money at it.

Lots of nastiness, is my guess. My mom is subbing in the Carmel skools now and they pay an extra $5/day if you sub in the retarded classes.

Logansport is the same way. We’ve got the “Cass County Area Transit” which is really just the “short bus” masquarading as a van. Seems like there’s hundreds of them rolling around L-Port and all of them are packed full of “special” people. Goverment caters to them. I hate the ADA.
