Big Winner

A lady won $100,000 from the Hoosier Lottery this weekend - she was highlighted on the front page of the Sunday paper here in cbus as well as countless stories on the radio and news about her.

But here’s what makes the story newsworthy - she was down to her last 90 bucks, $50k in credit card debt, and on the verge of suicide. So she gave her last 90 bucks to her daughter to buy lottery tickets.

Now, after she won, she claims that god helped her through this tough time. Glory be.

This is the worst story I’ve heard in a while. In my mind, it’s just as bad as the lady who cut the fetus out of another lady and took it as her own. She had dug a hole so deep, and took no responsibility for her actions. She spent her last 90 fucking dollars on lottery tickets! Which is probably what got her in such trouble in the first place.

Prediction: with the $72k she’ll keep after taxes, she’ll pay off her CC debt, buy everyone lots of nice Christmas gifts, and have about 18k left, after which she’ll spend the next six months living okay. She’ll be right back in the same boat in a year or so.

Pathetic. Not newsworthy at all, unless you want to point out how much of a drain on society this lady puts.

local family won $100k from ed mcmahon one year. their kids each got a new car, but nothing spectacular. the parents got one too i think. they started building on to their house, but ran out of money before they were done. less than 5 years later, their house burned down, and they had no insurance.

I bet it is a nice Christmas for everyone, she pays some of the cc debt, she buys some nice things, everyone’s happy and in the end she still ends up 50k in the hole.

andy’s right. in the long run she’ll be no better off, but her friends and family will be, because they’ll get awesome christmas gifts. also, i bet she doesn’t pay more than half of her CC debt.
