A look back

On 12/31/03, I made some predictions on a former blog site. Let’s go back and see just how right and wrong I was.

  1. The Colts will NOT win the superbowl.
  2. And they did not. They didn’t even make the superbowl. Maybe 2k5?

  3. Dubya will win the presidency again, but not with any huge margin. Democrats will blame the fact that there’s too many potential nominees and they’re too ravenous and scattered amongst themselves.
  4. Looks like I got the first part of that one right. The second part was also right around the primary time, but doesn’t really make much sense for the general election.

  5. Rumors will start to fly of Hillary Clinton’s bid for 2008 presidency. She will not confirm or deny.
  6. BIG check. Rumors are flying about Guilliani too.

  7. The stock market will continue to rise, the dow hitting 12000 by mid/late year. It will not be a stellar year like in the early/mid 90’s, but will be reasonable and good to most.
  8. Nope. It was a rather mild year for most. Here’s a link to a 1 year graph of the DJIA. It didn’t do much at all in 2k4.

  9. Michael Jackson will be found guilty of child molestation. He will be sentenced to some time, but it will be in a rather low security facility.
  10. Hasn’t happened yet - all of it is still pending.

  11. Martha Stewart will be found only minorly guilty of inside trading, and will be fined but will not be sent to prison.
  12. Guess I’m wrong there.

  13. MTV will bring back a 2st season of “Rich Girls”.
  14. There was no second season of this show. The 3rd season of Nick and Jessica starts soon though.

  15. The Lord of the Rings super mega deluxe boxed set will be relased at least in 3 separate formats, prompting all fans to buy each and every new special footage version.
  16. This is true - there are a large number of ways to now buy these movies. I haven’t even seen #3 yet.

  17. Dell will start selling computers that are liquid cooled.
  18. Definitely wrong here.

  19. There will be at least one death in the NASCAR Busch/Nextel Cup series during a race/qualifying. Ryan Newman will win the first Nextel Cup.
  20. The closest I’ve got is that a track worker was killed during Daytona Speed Week, and I think it was during practice (or perhaps qualifying, not sure). Also, a plane crashed killed a bunch of people in the Hendrick family.

As for Ryan Newman winning: wrong. Kurt Busch won. However, Newman did get 9 poles with 2 wins and 11 top fives. If he could only race 400+ miles as well as he races 1 lap, he’d be perfect.

  21. There will be a “Saved by the Bell” reunion type show.
  22. Okay, this was a longshot.

  23. And, finally, there will be a much larger number of Japanese based game shows (like Iron Chef/Most Extreme Elimination Challenge) for watching on cable.
  24. I would say wrong. It seems like the trend is to create American versions of these shows instead. Iron Chef America starts pretty soon. There’s a dodgeball gameshow on GSN. I think SpikeTV has another japanese type gameshow, but I’ve never seen it.

So I’m not a psychic. But I’m still going to make my predictions for 2k5. Look for them in the coming days.

Good predictions; I’m amazed you actually got some right.

Also, a Saved by the Bell reunion show would cause me to blow up my TV.
