Free Spins
The term “Free Spin” originated on the game show Wheel Of Fortune. They called it a free spin instead of a free turn because of the fact that, in general, on your turn you SPIN the wheel.
But that terminology seems to have stuck in other places. Now instead of free turns, people talk about getting free spins - even in places where the term doesn’t really make sense.
We are watching some old Press Your Luck right now, and they give out spins as turns (as well as free spins). That doesn’t really make any sense - there is no spinning!
Am I missing something?

Press Your Luck (best gameshow ever) didn’t have “spins” as in spinning a wheel, but it had “spins” as in spinning the indicator around the somewhat-round board. The light would flash around the somewhat-round circle of prizes and whammies until stopping… similar to a wheel.

But my point is that they weren’t spinning, like on wheel of fortune, but just taking turns.
