Vacation

Most of you tarkers will be taking the day off next Monday to help “celebrate” the Third of July. Not me. I’m working.

Not that I have to. Well, I could take a vacation day, but why should I? We’ll be in town, I already have Tuesday off, and everyone else basically is going to be gone that day. It will be the single most productive day of the year for me, not having to answer everyone else’s beckon and call.

Instead, we’ll be taking off Monday July 10th. Which is nice, because doing it this day means that out of the next 5 weeks, four of them will be four-day workweeks for me.

What will we be doing on Monday July 10th? I’m glad you asked. I’m super stoked for it. We’re going to Angola to see the wife’s family. Well, that’s not what I’m super stoked for (unless one of her sisters is reading this, in which case I am super stoked for it). No, on that Monday I will be partaking in a little known tradition of “take your son-in-law to work day”. I’m going to go visit Annie’s dad at work.

Why is that exciting? Because he’s a judge. That means I can sit in the courtroom and watch him throw people in jail, yell at them, call them names, request “order”, put them in contempt, and all of that fun stuff. Having never seen this stuff before, I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s all aboot. I will have my laptop and wireless internet card with me, so look forward to real time blog reports about the goings on in the early morning hours of the Angola courtroom.

In mildly related news: I got the notice that I’m in the prospective jurors pool for July, August, and September. I think that may be fun as well.

1st - I hope you aren’t disappointed when it’s boring. 2st - You will be bored to tears if you go on Monday morning, that’s small claims; you want to go on Monday afternoon when he talks to the prisioners. 3st - If you’re lucky he might let you sit on the bench.

Why do you get to go? Is this something Dad offered to you to do?

Somewhat. Court is open to the public anyway. I’m just going to take advantage of my day off from work to see it in action.

Do you have some way of cross the Atlantic very fast that I’m not aware of? Luanda isn’t exactly a cakewalk either.
