School
And so starts my final semester of grad school…
Both classes are MWF classes, which is good because it frees up my T and R to work on homework. Here’s what I know:
MA528 “Advanced Math for Physicists and Engineers II” with James Becker. He’s an old, somewhat frail guy, who says “umm” a lot. The class web page looks like the first one poor Jim ever did. But he’s killer sharp, knows his stuff, and gives great examples while he’s going through the notes. It also doesn’t seem like it’s going to be that hard - mostly about vector calculus, which I studied pretty heavily when I took advanced Emag as an undergrad.
IE533 “Analysis of Design of Experiments” with Hong Wan. Surprisingly, Hong Wan is a woman, with about as much English mastery as you’d expect. She talked about the course web page a lot, but she never mentioned the URL. Luckily, the class project is optional for extra credit. Also, luckily, all of the software we are going to use and most of the assignments are based around factor effect model statistical analysis, which I just finished taking (STAT512). So I won’t have to learn much new there, I hope.
