The Old Prophet

There’s a guy in Columbus who walks the streets offering salvation. He’s been doing it so long, I’m sure everyone who has lived here a while is familiar with the old prophet.

TOP can usually be found on the State St. bridge. He wears one of those contraptions you’d expect a nutjob with an agenda to wear - where he’s got a board on his front and a board on his back with messages written on them. He hands out fliers espousing the reasons why the churches around here are corrupt and you need to listen to his message. His radio show is on an AM station every Saturday morning. Listen to him.

He doesn’t approach the vehicles; instead, he simply walks back and forth on the side of the road. If someone wants to take one of his pamphlets, they have to ask him for one.

Lately, I’ve been seeing TOP at different locations. Yesterday he was at the intersection of Hwy 46 and 11, which a major artery in and out of town.

He had a new message on his sign yesterday. It said: “Help me support my radio show and spread the word with a donation”.

My only donation was a bit of wisdom, which I kept to myself:

“Get a job”
