Testing Expo

I will be at the Testing Technology Expo in Detroit next Wed-Fri.

If you’re in the area, stop on by. AEI is booth #15025. I think we have candy to give away.

I’m making some last minute preparations. We’ll be showcasing our test facilities, most notably via remote video and software control of our test cells. I’ve been testing this capability all week and tweaking things, particularly how the video feed eats into our local bandwidth.

AEI has both a T1 and a cable internet line for redundancy. When the camera system is streaming, it eats into the T1 in a massive way, so I am utilizing the cable system for the VPN to control the test system remotely.

We’re paying like $250 for internet access at our booth, so I wanted to find out what that encompassed in the way of bandwidth. The reply: there is a T1 for the whole facility, shared amongst all participants. If you take a look at the map, there’s something like 150-200 exhibitors at this show. That doesn’t seem like enough bandwidth to me. If our camera system completely eats away at our T1, what’s going to happen when the thousands of people at the convention try and use a single T1? Seems like it won’t work.

So, the remote video/test demonstration may be a complete bust. If it is, I guess I’ll resort to hand waving and magic tricks. Maybe I can do something David Blaine/Criss Angel style.

You should just pack some extra volts and techmology in your suitcase.
