Audits

If you’re a government contractor, particularly a defense contractor, you are subject to annual timekeeping audits.

See, the rate which you can charge the government for certain contractso you do is based on the fixed costs plus and overhead rate that is determined based on the number of hours and people you have working for overhead type things. Thus the need for them to come and audit our timebooks annually. They have to make sure everyone exists and they have to make sure they are accurately reporting their time to the various projects they work on.

So, I had to sit through my annual question and answer session about how I fill out my timebook, if I am paid for overtime and if not how I go about charging my time to the projects, etc. However, the last question set me aback:

Auditor: Are you aware of the DOD/DCAA hotline for reporting issues related to corruption in your company about timebooks?

Me: Uhh, no I am not.

Auditor: Okay, thank you.

Shouldn’t she at least have made an attempt to tell me that information?
