Bringing family together is a good excuse to make them work
Every year we make an effort to get our respective families together. Since mine live 2 hours west and the wife’s live 3 hours northeast, this isn’t always easy. Add to this the fact that one of the wife’s sisters is in college in yet another town, one of my aunt/uncle pairs live about another 45 minutes past my parents, and various other family members have other things to do, coming up with a time to get everyone over here is a bit of a challenge.
My fancy Christmas light display used to be the reason we’d get everyone over here. However, we didn’t put it up this year due to time constraints as well as the fact that the front of the house needs to be relandscaped before we put any effort into another light show. Next year, I promise it will go up faithful reader. But that isn’t what this blog is about.
This blog is about us having a bunch of people over today for fun, food, and fellowship. And of course, by fellowship I mean work. That is, I put all of the guys to work. Here is what I made them do:
1. Put up quarter round trim in the new office, including cutting, mitreing, and pneumatic-nailing.
2. Rehanging the ladder in the garage so it’s higher up and doesn’t conflict with opening/closing the car door
3. Putting in a door stop on the door hinge in the breezeway
Now, this isn’t a huge laundry list of things to do, and they got them done rather quickly, but it’s amazing how fast these things get accomplished when you’ve got a few extra hands on deck to help. Had I not been able to delegate these tasks, it might have literally been years before I would ever have completed them on my own.
In return for the hard work, we fed everyone some stuff off the grill. There was also veggie pizza, rice krispie treats, cheese and crackers, and a chocolate pie. They seemed to enjoy it all.
Now, for you, dear reader. In return for you having to read this blog I present to you a picture taken today by my father in law of his daughters and me. We didn’t know the picture was going to be taken, but trust me, it turned out better than the one where we actually posed and smiled for the camera.

I have no idea what everyone else was doing, but it seems I was doing my best impression of a STABBING ROBOT.
BEEP BEEP RIBBY RIBBY.
