A hectare of snow

Our snow accumulation from last week wasn’t too bad in comparison to many other places. Maybe 4-6″ total.

It’s been melting nicely over the past few days. Unfortunately, two nights ago while laying in bed I kept hearing very loud “thump-thump”s emintating from the road in front of our house as cars drove by. Not every car, but a large percentage. We thought there was an object in the road they were running over.

Turns out, we were right. Except that object was a huge gaping lack of road. Somehow the recently snow and melt caused a huge pothole to form. But since the snow was melting actively, that pot hole was completely filled with water making it impossible to see. Every time a car ran over it, it make a very loud noise, probably did absolutely NO good to the car, and emptied the pot hole of its water contents. 5 seconds later it was full of water again, invisible to the next car.

Last night I was getting pretty annoyed at listening to it. Especially when large vehicle drove in it, because it would cause the house to rattle. I was going to call the street department today, but someone must have taken care of that because last night, at 9:30PM, a street department truck showed up and filled that guy in with asphalt. Who knew those guys worked that late!

Crisis averted.
