I don't remember rob. It was probably about two years ago. It might have been a forum post instead of an e-mail; I can't remember now.

Caleb: Where did you send the phpMyAdmin request to?

As a former PMA developer, and one that still subscribes to the PMA development list and the various PMA team aliases, I can't find an email from you, since the start of my archive in January 2003.

I have added features for money before, so there is indeed a precedent in PMA for doing so.

I have to say I do not understand the phpmyadmin guy's attitude. I develop open source software for free and expect nothing in return (at least directly in monetary terms) but if offered a fee for adding features I cannot see how that hurts.

The times are changing and some people seem averse to any commercialisation of open source software. I don't like some projects claim to be open source and then try to make you feel bad for not donating, but I think there is a happy balance. Bounties, Google Summer of Code (TM) and other initiatives are already in place and I feel have a net positive impact. If someone's work is helping you make money it seems fair to give them a little back :)
