A woman, a rodent, and a cat

Let me tell you one thing I’ve learned about women. They will call you on your way home from work to inform you there’s a rodent in the basement.

In this case, it was a chipmunk. Now, personally I think chimpmunks are kind of cute. Certainly nicer than mice or rats. They have a nice quality to them. They don’t seem dirty.

Well, one somehow made its way into our basement, and startled the wife when she was doing laundry. Enough that she didn’t want to go down there without me.

No worries though, we have a cat. He’ll take care of it. He’s always studiously watching birds outside, ready to pounce on them if we would just open the door.

No such luck. We took that kocher downstairs and I startled the chipmunk out and he was running all over. The cat watched with great intent, and did a little following, but nothing serious. At one point the cat came off the stairs and stood on the floor, watching the chipmunk behind some cover with great intent. I had a long stick and I scared the chipmunk out, and he ran right into the cat! And what did our cat do? He did exactly what my wife owuld have done. He jumped straight up, startled. And the chipmunk ran away. And the cat seemed to lose interest.

What a worthless piece of feline.

So we went off to Petco for a live trip, but they didn’t have any. No worries, we hit rural king and they did. I set the trap, put it against the wall, and then scared the chimpmunk. He ran right into it, then proceeded to go directly out the lid. So I weighted the lid down, and we tried again. he went right in, and I took him outside and let him go.

The day’s hilarity just doesn’t stop.

there’s a chippy that lives behind my house that the cats love to stare and chirp at, but they’d prolly be just as pussy if they had access to it.

    ps. i heart rural king.

in the cat’s defense it was a fairly large chipmunk.

The cat basically avoided us the rest of the night. I think he knew we were none to thrilled with her performance.

You wanna borrow one of ours?

    um chipmunk…code name …field mouse…yes it is a mouse!

PS. If you had a golden retriever like we do, he would have caught it for you. Unfortunately, ours like to play with it before he kills it (aka break its hind legs while gently chewing on it and then letting it scamper away a few steps and then pouncing on it)

Man… I thought I knew the outcome of this entry when I began reading it.

Let’s just say I have a *very* different experience with cats. Heh… We’ve had the problem of cats leaving all sorts of presents on our doorsteps… Catching birds in mid-takeoff and “playing” with them for hours. I’m sure Silver would love to “play” with your chipmunk.

    Wanna borrow my cat? ;-)

my dog caught a bird in my house a week or so ago. he didn’t hurt it, but it couldn’t fly because it was all slobbery. i took it away from him and let it go outside.

  10. TP Says:

…and then you found $5 worth of dog food?

  11. ss Says:

TP: nope, bird poop…which is a lot of bird poop
