Cheapocity
After another successful Strassenfest, the wife and I returned to Columbus late Saturday afternoon.
I made a brief trip into work to restart a few systems, then it was on to dinner. At first we thought about eating at home, but decided our food selection wasn’t going to cut it. Then we talked about ordering pizza, but weren’t hungry enough to eat that much food.
After a few minutes, we settled on Fazolis.
Now, we’re both big fans of Fazolis. Most of the time we both order their Chicken and Pasta Caesar salad, which is our favorite thing on the menu. A few months ago when we went, the salads were less than good. They normally make the salads fresh to order, and these were most likely made early in the day. They were small, wilted, and didn’t taste “fresh”. Add to that no breadstick service, and the wife filed a formal complaint online.
We’ll both happily complain online if service isn’t what we expect. Normally our complaint comes when they forget to give us some kind of food via the drive through window, and the compensation is a free food item coupon - makes sense, since you paid for something and never got it.
We got a call from the manager, an apology letter, 4 “free entree and drink” coupons and a $5 off your order coupon. That was completely overkill, but we’ll use them none the less.
We ordered our salads, and one drink. The wife used one of our free entree and drink coupons, and the $5 off your order coupon. After the person on duty put everything into the register the total came to -$0.41. And guess what - the manager had the cashier give us $0.41. So here we are, ordering two entrees and a drink, and they’re paing us $0.41 to do so.
For the record: the salads were bangtastic. Breadstick service was awesome to boot.
Now, the icing on this cake is even sweeter. We head off to the movie rental store on the way home to get a movie to watch. The wife got some “free movie rental” coupons from Blockbuster, because we don’t go there very often anymore. No, we go to Family Video now mostly because it’s closer. But we also go because they honor all competitors coupons, which means we got a free movie to watch too.
So dinner for two and a movie ended up netting us a gain of $0.41. I figure that paid for the gas to drive to these two locations.
