Speciality Plates
Is it just me, or does Indiana have too many speciality license plates? Do other states have this many plates? Here’s just a small sample:
Regular:

In God We Trust:

Support the Troops:

Then there are 33 (yes, 33) college plates available, like:
My alma mater:

The wife’s alma mater:

But wait, you can also show your affiliation with the military with 8 different plates, including:
For purple heart recipients:

Pearl harbor survivors (how many of these guys are still going?):

POW:

And the ones we see the most of, DAV:

Then there are the organizations (31 on my count) that you can support, including:
The Freemasons

The Colts

The Arts

Pregancy Centers

The Black Expo

Native Americans

Nurses (why do they need “support?”)

Juvenile Diabetes Research

And something about “Health”

There are a few I’ve seen around that aren’t index on the Indiana BMV website, including one that supports local “Food Banks”.
Don’t get me wrong; this is certainly a fantastic way to draw more tax revenues and get donations for various organizations. But do other states do this, and with this many types of plates? Is Indiana a little overboard in what they’re doing here?
