Rant about computers

I’ve been having some sketchy issues with my laptop for the past week or so.

Before I begin, I should state that the computer I’ve been having problems with belongs to work. But I take it home almost every night and have random non-work related items on my machine. I do have a linux box at home but right now it’s running the Christmas lights.

So, I’ve been having problems. It’s a Compaq, with 2+gig dual processor with 2 gigs of RAM. Not the greatest machine ever but it’s definitely more than capable of doing what I want it to do. I’m also running Vista which I actually kind of like. Anyway, I’ve been having some intermitten issues with my wired network connection at work. Online banking site keeps asking me security questions (which it doesn’t normally do). One of the application I work with on daily basis is acting funny.

Yesterday, I decided to rebuild the machine. So I spent the majority of my day doing that. I finally got iTunes setup after work (I had issues with the backup disk at first) and by about 9:30 this morning I had most other things but I couldn’t get this very necessary application to work. Earlier in the day, I noticed that I was having some issues with my docking station specifically the wired connection. I haven’t had a chance to fully troubleshoot my docking station issues but it would really stink if that’s the cause of all of my issues.

I called tech support. Tech support wasn’t all that helpful - basically said it’s a Vista or Java problem, so I shoud call them. After a failed attend to use a restore point, I decided to start all over again. And that’s were I’m at right now. Waiting to login

Keep your fingers crossed.

PS. If I had a MAC this wouldn’t be any issue. :)
