Walmart thieves

In this morning’s paper/on the radio was a story about a couple of drag queens who were passing fake checks at Walmart.

The story is funny in itself, but that’s not the point. The point is this, paraphrased, quote:

The two are alleged with writing bad checks for laptop computers, then turning around and returning them and pocketing the money.

They were on the hook for almost $4k worth of money/merchandise.

Now, I haven’t written a check at Walmart in, oh, say, FOREVER, so I am not familiar with their current refund policies, but WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THEY REFUND CASH FOR A CHECK THAT IS WRITTEN THAT SAME DAY, ESPECIALLY FOR A LAPTOP!.

WHen I worked retail upteen hundred years ago, when someone wrote a check and tried to return something, they were issued a mailed refund check from our corporate headquarters. It didn’t matter if the check was for $5.00. You buy it with a check, you can only receive a refund in the mail. I even recanted this morning for the wife the story of a guy who bought something and brought it back alter that same day and wanted to just exchange it for his check back; no dice. They wouldn’t do it.

This story has me irate, only because I don’t understand why if Walmart is supposed to be committed to keeping prices so low why they would allow this.

hah! I remember the guy at Office Max who tried to get his own credit by post-dating his check a month out on a computer that he had bought.. Returned the computer all pissed off a couple of weeks later when he realized we had deposited the check and it cleared.
