Home Improvements: Bedroom

Our latest project is our new bedroom. This was a long and hard project, but I’ll attempt to summarize it with a few words and pictures.

You may recall from a previous blog that the project started with deconstruction late last year:

The first steps were to get rid of the old floor. (Note, this part was done by our hired builder)

We also had to remove the old closet framing, in prep for brand new closets to be framed on the other side of the room.

After the floor was finished, we put down some paper to protect it while framing in other parts of the room.

After that was all done, it was time to paint. We settled on a nice pink:

I’m kidding. That’s just the tinted primer color. Our actual color was more of a creamy red (3 coats worth):

Add a few window treatments, doors to the closets, and a ceiling fan:

And finally, as of this weekend, our bedroom furniture:

Note that to keep more space in the room, we put in a new door that swings outward instead of inward.

Thought not reflected in the pictures, we also added a couple more outlets, and moved the cable to the other side of the room.

The pictures look a little too red, but the room itself is actually very nice. I think we’ll get a few things on the walls that are whitish to help offset the color a bit because it is a RED room, but it’s not nearly as vibrant as the camera shows.

It looks especially good with the cherry hardwood floor, in my opinion.

We still aren’t quite finished. We have some casing to put around the closet doors yet and there is going to be a window seat in the window between the two closets, but that will happen in a few weeks when our builder comes back to begin the next project…the new bathroom.
