2st Car Saga

Last Friday was the first major snowfall in the area.

It started around 9AM, and was expected to have a large amount of accumulation. By about noon, there were probably 1-2 inches on the ground. The roads weren’t terrible by any means, but I didn’t feel or need to leave work for lunch.

The unfortunate news is that one of our customers did leave for lunch, and in doing so, he backed his Tahoe into my Maxima. Now, I can fully sympathize with him as my car was essentially covered in snow and pretty much just a white blob on a background of white in his rear view mirror. But this is the 2st car incident we’ve had in as many months. Yuck.

I’ve attached a few pics for details. It’s basically the rear driver’s side bumper which will have to be replaced. It also knocked out one the backup sensors that beeps when you get too close to something while in reverse.

After lunch, we called his insurance company (GEICO) to file the claim. They were super helpful. They also don’t have any claims people in Columbus, which meant that yesterday I had to drive to Bloomington (about 35 miles away) to meet the claims guy at 10AM so he could look at my car.

He cut me a check for $768.20 which was their estimate of damages. He also cut me a separate check for $40 to pay for my rental car expenses, since I told him I’d rather just have the $ instead of the car. He wouldn’t reimburse me for the $10 or so in gas it cost me to drive 70 miles round trip to meet with him. Bummer.

I went to the body shop immediately after getting back into cbus. They looked at the estimate, and went ahead and got the parts ordered. When the parts are in and are painted, I just have to go drop the car off, for one night, and then will be back in shape.

I’m wondering if we need to start taking predictions on when the next car incident is going to take place?
