Here comes the flood
As I sit here, we are nearing the flood.
Our town is now at about 50% flooded. Our house sits pretty high in comparsion to many others, so we’re lucky. We can see the water across the street, big time. And it’s rising.
The last report I have is that the river was at 11.6 feet and will hit 20.5. 22 feet is the 500 year flood plain, which is about level with our house. I’m anticipating our basement will flood within the next few hours. What this means is that about 10,000 other houses will be completely flooded, and that’s just in the immediate area.
TP, a friend of mine, already evacuated his house a few hours ago and I’m guessing it’s probably completely covered by now. It was in his living room when he hoofed it out, which meant his street was a few feet deep at the time. That was 4 hours ago - and we still have 6-7 feet more of rise to go.
So, the two of us are pretty safe here, and even if the water does hit our front steps, we have a 2nd floor so we ‘ll have another 12 feet to go. We’ve got jugs of water I bought a few years ago in case of an emergency (I think this constitutes).
The cable went out a coulpe of hours ago, and thus the internet. But I have a EVDO card, which helps. Cell phone coverage is terrible now as everyone is trying to call all at the same times. For some reason we still have power. Most of the town doesn’t.
We can’t really go anywhere, as every way out of town is flooded. One bridge for sure has washed out, and hte others are close. The hospital was evacuated a while back - water is currently “gushing” out of the emergency room doors according to some guys we just talked to a little bit ago.
Updates as I learn more or have more information. We’ll post pics in the next few days.

Wow… I’d like to see pics. I heard about the flooding Sat. night and couldn’t believe it since we are not that far away in New Albany and didn’t see even a drop of water.
