Racism
I heard on the news* this weekend that Mexican president Vicente Fox made some comments that were construed as racist.
I believe the comment in question was about how Mexicans perform jobs that “even blacks wouldn’t do”. Take it as you want, there is at least some partial truth to the matter. It was distasteful, however, since he doesn’t speak English as a native language you’ve got to at least be a little open to understanding that perhaps it wasn’t how he meant to word the comment.
What’s tarky about all of this, however, is how Jesse Jackson has now stepped in (as well as Al Sharpton, who seems to always be just 1 step behind Jackson). They both publicly called for apologies, and will be meeting with Fox behind closed doors.
Now - that’s power. They can demand from a foreign president time to meet with him and get an apology. Perhaps Fox is just a wuss?
However, I will guarantee you one thing - they will both request that he donate money to their foundations as part of their apology. That’s the Jackson way - threaten a public boycott of products unless you fork over money.
Perhaps that’s why NASCAR is Jackson’s largest contributor. You don’t see him yelling to loudly about how there are too few blacks working in stock car racing, do you?
Hey Jesse: A Mexican and a black guy were in a car. Who was driving?
A cop.
